Thanks to everyone who made the last Meetup such a huge success. We packed 13 freedom bags -- half our goal of 25. CAST social workers are already using these wonderful bags to help clients rescued from trafficking situations.
We are doing an inventory and will let you know more details, but two items CAST particularly needs with some urgency are bath towels and t-shirts. We only received 3 towels so the other backpacks don't have them. If you have an extra $5 this week, please consider spending it on a bath towel. Many victims relish their first shower once they are rescued, and having their own towel instead of a borrowed, used one would mean a lot. T-Shirts are useful for sleeping in and usually needed until a wardrobe can be obtained.
If you have a resource or connection that could arrange a donation of several towels or t-shirts, let us know. We can provide documentation of the donation if necessary -- just contact Lisa Helene to arrange the details and delivery.
On May 13th, we're going to finish packing the bags, discuss how to play this successful project forward, and consider our summer outreach activities. There have been several suggestions, including starting satellite groups in the South Bay and San Fernando Valley and visiting Farmers Markets to raise awareness in the local agricultural community. Come with your ideas -- we'll talk while we work. We will also fill you in on the June Nightlife event.
Thanks again for the wonderful generosity of everyone able to participate last month. If you've been unable to participate due to scheduling or location, tell us what night and area would work for you.
At your service,
Grant, Lisa Helene & Jacqueline
