SAN FRANCISCO FIGHTS HUMAN TRAFFICKING MEETUP OUTREACH PROJECT WITH THE SAGE PROJECT, INC. What is the context of this Outreach Project? SFFHT members will go to certain neighborhoods where trafficking has been found in the past. Our first Outreach Project will focus on the Tenderloin Area and target victims of sex trafficking. We will target locations that SAGE has already researched and has found to be a ?potential intervention spot?. A potential spot for intervention means that the identified location could be a place where a victim of human trafficking may be able to visit and/or may be able to interact with someone aware of trafficking. It is these ?moments? that are full of opportunity for them to see a resource, be given a resource or have someone reach out to them and offer help. These locations include restaurants, money transfer businesses, nail salons, other non-profits. What will we give them? We will provide them with brochures from HHS, Mirrors, Chapsticks, Palm Cards. Why are we advertising 211? The SAGE Project, Inc. has partnered with 211, run buy United Way, because they have a free -24 hour- multilingual ?easy to remember- hotline that provides social services referrals to anyone, regardless of status. SAGE has trained them to look out for calls from potential trafficking victims and how to respond to them. If someone calls 211 and is thought to be a victim, they will be passed onto SAGE. What are the goals? 1. Distribute outreach materials that advertise 211 as a resource 2. Distribute materials in locations where victims of trafficking may be reached 3. Create awareness of human trafficking in the Tenderloin Neighborhood 4. Bring awareness to SFFHT members about the physical location and related complexities that exist in areas where trafficking exists How will we go there? We will meet at a pre-identified area at 3pm.We will split up and approach businesses in groups of 3. We will meet to debrief at 5:30pm. Is there any danger? We will not be entering any establishments where we believe sex trafficking may exist. This is a public awareness and educational outreach activity and no known risks are apparent. However, all activities during this outreach activity are volunteer and there is no liability to anyone but yourself.
